Some Tips to Help Maintain a Healthy Back

A healthy back means a happier body. Your spine is linked to every part of your body in some way, and a pain in the back could also be causing that pain in the neck, knees, or some other part of your body. Taking great care of your spine and back can be the difference between living and suffering!

Keep moving. Although your back may be stiff and sore from any number of ailments, you always want to remain active. Staying bedridden for two or more days can actually cause injury to the spine. Keep your back strong by keeping you whole body fit. Also, the more weight you have, the more weight is on your spine. Losing just five or ten pounds can helpt to ease chronic back pain. Consult with best spine surgeon in Chennai if you face any back or neck pain issue.

Strengthen your core. Working out your stomach muscles and keeping your core firmed up and strong will help to keep your spine straight, strong, and pain-free. The muscles in your stomach and oblique muscles help to support your spine.

Don't sit idle. About half of Amercians have a desk job, where they sit in front of a computer screen for eight or more hours a day. Sitting all that time can cause back pain even in active adults and children. If you do have a desk job that requires you to sit most of the day, there are several things you can do to help your back stay healthy.

Make sure your chair is supportive, and your desk and chair at a good height for your body. You want to keep good posture while you sit; slouching and leaning will cause soreness in your lower back and hips. About once an hour, stand up and stretch, leaning to one side, then the other. Walk around in a circle, and then stretch your fingers to the ceiling. This whole exercise takes about a minute, and helps to keep the blood flowing and keeps your body from becoming sore. These little exercise breaks can also help to wake you up if you are a bit sleepy!

If you are hurt... If you injure your back, do not wait! Waiting can result in more damage and painful day-to-day life. If you have slipped a disk in your spine or pulled a muscle, you will be reminded every moment, no matter what you are doing, by the pain.

Do things properly. You've heard the phrase "Lift with your legs not your back?" There is a reason that phrase is so common. Make sure you know how many pounds you are lifting, the proper way to lift it. Know your limits! Also, be careful when sitting down into a low car or onto the couch; throwing yourself onto furniture can be a cause of spinal or back injury.

Keeping good care of your spine will pay off in the end. Make sure your spine has a long healthy life by taking proper care of it, and being sensitive to the signals your back and body are giving you. A healthy spine will help you to lead a healthy life!
